Dr Robert Kernan

Dr Robbie Kernan is a Consultant Paediatrician appointed to Children’s Health Ireland since 2021. He qualified from UCD in 2009, completing his internship in St Vincent’s Hospital before working in Royal Perth Hospital, Australia. He completed paediatric training through the Royal College of Physicians in 2019, before embarking on a 2 year Paediatric Hospitalist Fellowship in The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. His academic interest during this time was completion of Dual Fellowship Training in Simulation Based Education.

Dr Kernan commenced employment as a General Paediatric Consultant in University Hospital Waterford in 2020, before returning to CHI for further subspecialist training in Paediatric Endocrinology. He has been the consultant clinical lead for establishing a tertiary referral service for patients with Complex Obesity. He is currently working 0.5 WTE with both the Department of General Paediatrics and The Department of Paediatric Endocrinology, and has a special expertise in managing diabetes care, nutrition, thyroid disorders, hypoglycaemia, pituitary abnormalities and short stature.
