  • Is scoliosis genetic?

  • Is scoliosis dangerous?
    Small curves usually don't cause problems. But a curve that gets worse may need treatment.
  • Can I exercise and play sport if I have scoliosis?
    Exercise and general physical activity are good for everyone. Speak to your doctor first, but generally physical activity and sports don't have a negative effect on the spine.
  • Are spina bifida and scoliosis related?
    Approximately 50 percent of people with spina bifida will also develop scoliosis, so they are related in terms of causation and also as conditions that affect the brain and spinal cord.
  • What other conditions are linked to scoliosis
    Neuromuscular scoliosis includes scoliosis associated with conditions such as cerebral palsy, spinal cord trauma, muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and spina bifida.
  • What is a Cobb angle?
    The Cobb angle measures scoliosis curves in the spine. For curves measuring 50 degrees or more in adolescents, surgery is likely to be recommended.
