Sensory-Friendly Environments Make a Difference
Many children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) experience sensory sensitivities. Bright lights, loud noises, and unfamiliar environments can be overwhelming. At CHI, we understand this and strive to create a welcoming and calming atmosphere for all our patients.
Dedicated Sensory Rooms
All of our locations at CHI at Connolly, Tallaght, Temple Street and Crumlin have designated sensory rooms or quiet areas available to children who may feel overwhelmed during their visit. These rooms are equipped with special features to help manage sensory needs, including:
- Soft lighting
- Calming music and visuals
- Fidget toys and other tactile objects
These sensory rooms provide a safe and comfortable space for children to relax and self-regulate before or after procedures. Simply ask a member of our staff at the front desk for assistance in accessing these rooms.

Building a Brighter Future at our New Children’s Hospital
The new children's hospital currently under construction at St. James’s will take our commitment to sensory-friendly environments a step further. The design incorporates dedicated sensory spaces and quiet areas throughout the facility. This thoughtful architecture will ensure a more positive experience for all children, young people and their families, including those with ASD.
Together, we can create a healthcare experience that is welcoming and inclusive for all children!
