Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) and the Department of General Paediatrics are delighted to announce a new unit for children has opened at CHI at Crumlin today.

The Starling Acute Medical Admission Unit (AMAU) is a 9-bed unit that will care for children and adolescents of all ages who need acute inpatient care. The unit is designed to help children get better faster by providing early assessment and treatment, and by helping them to be discharged home as soon as possible.

The Starling AMAU is located on the main corridor near the medical tower entrance on the way to St Joseph's Ward. It is open from 7:30am to 7pm from Monday to Friday operating a 24-hour service, and will eventually be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

The Starling AMAU is the first of its kind at CHI, and is thanks to the hard work of many people.

  • The Starling AMAU is staffed by a team of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals who are specially trained to care for sick children.
  • The unit has a number of features that are designed to make it comfortable and welcoming for children, including a playroom, a family room, and access to a garden.
  • The Starling AMAU is part of CHI's plan to provide the best possible care for sick children in Ireland.
