About the Youth Advisory Council

The Youth Advisory Council (YAC) is a group of Young people aged between 13 and 22 years old who share their experiences as users of Children’s Health Ireland (CHI) hospital services in order to inform policy, practices, research and the development of services both within CHI and on a national basis.

Our mission:

“To give young people a voice and allow them to actively contribute to the quality of paediatric care in Ireland.

What is the purpose of YAC?

The purpose of YAC is to:

  • Improve the care that children and young people receive in CHI
  • Feed into the design and delivery of services in the 4 Paediatric children’s hospital sites and the new Children’s Hospital
  • Engage with government bodies such as the Department of Health, the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA), Office of the Ombudsman for Children and the HSE on Healthcare Issues and Initiatives for Children

What is the commitment?

YAC meet on a monthly basis throughout the academic year – Approximately 9 meetings a year. They meet on a Wednesday in Dublin and meetings run from 10.30am to 3pm (approx.). The expectation is that you would be able to commit to attending 70% of the meetings throughout the year.
