This year, World Asthma Day is Tuesday 3rd of May 2022.

The international theme for 2022 is ‘Closing gaps on asthma care’ and The Asthma Society of Ireland’s focus this year is themed around children and asthma.

With this in mind, the CHI at Tallaght Asthma team is joining our TUH Adult nurse specialist colleagues and holding jointly-run information stands from 9-11 and 12-2 on the 3rd of May to raise awareness of Asthma and its management.

One stand will be located in the foyer of the new CHI building and the other will be located outside the canteen in the main building.

Both stands will have members of the CHI and TUH Asthma Nurse Specialist teams you can speak with where we will share information with our colleagues, and parents and children with Asthma alike.

World Asthma Day is held each May to raise awareness of Asthma worldwide. Although asthma cannot be cured, it is possible to manage asthma to reduce and prevent asthma attacks, also called episodes or exacerbations (GINA, 2022).

The Asthma Society of Ireland has user-friendly information and resources for staff and parents alike on their website. They will also be holding a seminar with special guest speakers on Asthma and Allergies in Children on Thursday the 5th May 2022 at 7 pm in recognition of World Asthma Day. (Flyer attached – link to join will be posted on asi.ie)

We look forward to you joining us at our stands on the 3rd of May where there will be inhaler technique video demonstrations, various learning resources, a quiz, and a draw to be in with the chance of winning some exciting prizes!
