The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Academic Department of Paediatrics and Child Health is based in St George’s Hall, CHI at Temple St and in CHI Crumlin. Neonatology is taught in Rotunda and Coombe Maternity Hospitals and during placements in regional paediatric units.
It provides the following:
Undergraduate:
Responsible for undergraduate teaching of paediatrics to students from Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. This involves a six week rotation in SC1 Year. Formative and summative assessment include portfolio assessments, in module clinical assessments, OSCE and an end of year MCQ. Students spend 2 weeks in the tertiary centre and 2 weeks in regional units : Mullingar, Drogheda, Cavan, Kilkenny and Wexford. Prizes are awarded for 1st and 2nd place overall in the examinations and in a seperate essay based prize is awarded in neonatology, the McMillan Prize.
Paediatrics is the most successful speciality in RCSI in placing students in 1st choice residency programs in US and Canada.
We host national and international medical student elective placements.
Research:
Undergraduate Research: Student electives and research projects Postgraduate Research: Clinical research interests include paediatric allergy, cystic fibrosis, neurology, inflammatory bowel disease, neonatal cardiology and neonatal haematology. MD/PhD: Several collaborative international research groups including ongoing MD and PhD students

University College Dublin Department of Paediatrics at CHI at Crumlin is
Responsible for undergraduate teaching of paediatrics to students from University College Dublin, coordinated by the Director of Paediatric Education, Dr Sinead Murphy.
Co-ordination of postgraduate learning.
Supervision of postgraduate research.
The research interests are in clinical research in Paediatric Emergency Medicine under the academic leadership of Professor Ronan O’Sullivan and in translational research in Paediatric Gastroenterology under the academic leadership of Professor Billy Bourke.
