The Department of Clinical Perfusion provides services to the Cardiothoracic Surgery & Cardiology Department at Children’s Health Ireland.
Clinical Perfusionists are specialised healthcare professionals, who manage the heart lung machine during these procedures.

Our services
Some of the things that a perfusionist does are:
connects the heart lung machine to the child's blood vessels
checks and adjusts the blood pressure, oxygen level, temperature and other factors
supports the child's heart and lungs after surgery or during illness
provides emergency care if needed
We have six perfusionists who work at our children's hospital. They are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for any procedures that need a heart-lung machine. They work closely with the surgeons, nurses, and other staff to provide the best care for our patients.
