Beech Ward

Beech Ward is a 10-bedded/cots unit, where children and young people requiring surgery and medical investigations/treatment are managed during the day time.

Current visiting policy

Restricted visiting is allowed during visiting times on most of our wards. Follow our guidance for more information.

How to find us

Beech Ward is located on level 2 of the adult hospital.

For security reasons, the entrance is locked at all times but please ring the bell and a member of staff will let you in.

Meal times

Meals will be served at your child’s bedside for:

  • breakfast, at 8:30am
  • dinner, at 12:30pm
  • tea time, at 4:15pm
  • supper, at 8:30pm

While special dietary requirements are catered for by the hospital it can be difficult to source specific foods at short notice. If your child has special dietary requirements we ask you to bring in his/her own food.

For the nursing staff, ring: (01) 414 2295 between the hours of 2pm-4pm.

For the admission officer, ring: (01) 414 2005 between the hours of 9am-4pm.

If your child is unwell, do not attend and ring: (01) 414 2295 for advice and to book an alternative appointment.

Admissions process

When you arrive, your child will first be seen by our admissions officer and then be admitted by a nurse. Following this a doctor will see you and your child where she or he will obtain consent for your child's procedure. If you have any worries or concerns, please do not hesitate to mention them to any of these staff upon arrival.

It is important that your child brings pyjamas (night clothes) to change into for Theatre. The Surgical lists run throughout the day, however emergencies can occur resulting in delays and your understanding would be appreciated. We will keep you informed on the day.

Post-operative information

Post-operative pain information leaflets will be given to you on your child's discharge, but make sure to be prepared and have Calpol and Brufen at home.
