High Dependency Unit
The High Dependency Unit is located in the Oak Ward. It is a 3-bedded unit that caters to children that require special nursing and medical care.
Staying with your child
Parents' accommodation is also available for those who wish to say overnight, this is located near the ward area. No children are allowed in this area. If you do not wish to avail of this or wish to stay at your child's bedside every effort will be made to provide a camp bed for you. Camp beds must be folded away during the day to allow for easy access and cleaning. Bathroom and shower facilities are available for resident parents.
Facilities
The parent's kitchen is available to all Parents/Guardians and the staff canteen is available for use. We kindly request that no patients are in the kitchen during their stay. This facility allows parents time to make a cuppa and space to think.
Meal times
No hot drinks are permitted in this ward for health and safety reasons.
Here your child will be observed 24 hours a day and generally attached to monitors to record heart rate, breathing, blood pressure, etc. Your nurse will explain all these monitors to you on your admission. We ask you not to have your mobile phones turned on in this Unit as they interfere with our monitoring equipment.
