Oak Ward is a 19-bedded unit, where children over 1 year are admitted for the management of acute medical conditions.
The medical conditions treated on this ward include respiratory difficulties, asthma, endocrinology, diabetes, neurology, cystic fibrosis, and mental health issues. The High Dependency Unit for seriously ill children and young people of all ages is also located on the Oak Ward.
Patients under the age of 16 cannot leave the ward without supervision.
Facilities
Parents' accommodation is also available for those who wish to say overnight, this is located near the ward area. No children are allowed in this area. If you do not wish to avail of this or wish to stay at your child's bedside every effort will be made to provide a camp bed for you. Camp beds must be folded away during the day to allow for easy access and cleaning. Bathroom and shower facilities are available for resident parents. Siblings staying with the patient must be 18 years or older.
Please bring pyjamas and slippers for your child during their stay.
Meal times
Meals will be served at your child’s bedside for:
breakfast, at 8:30am
dinner, at 12:30pm
tea time, at 4:15pm
supper, at 8:30pm
Food can be brought in for your child, but please be discrete as other children may be fasting on the ward.
No hot drinks are permitted in this ward for health and safety reasons.
Please inform staff on admission of any special dietary requirements.
