St. Joseph's Ward (Crumlin)

St. Josephs ward is a 22-bedded ward that cares for patients with Orthopaedic and Gastro – Intestinal (G.I.) needs.

Staying with your child

If you wish to stay with your child at night on the ward, fold out mattress can be obtained from parent’s accommodation. The Health Care Assistant can assist you with linen. Parents accommodation is based on the 2nd floor of the hospital, ask a member of staff for directions. The hospital also offers parents accommodation off the ward. If you wish to avail of a room in parent’s accommodation you can book it through main switch. These rooms are available upstairs and costing is paid per night to Supervisor in parent’s accommodation. A key is available from a staff member to use the facilities of parent’s accommodation, just ask.

The facilities of the Ronald McDonald House are also available to parents and families, with a small number of family rooms. This is a house based on the grounds of CHI at Crumlin. Families of long-term sick patients and their siblings can avail of accommodation in Ronald McDonald House. Enquiries regarding availability/bookings can be made through the main hospital number.

If you are leaving your child, we request that you leave an up to date contact number with staff and ensure that the phone is turned on at all times. This will ensure that staff can contact you should your child become upset /unwell or request your presence.

  • parent’s room

Meal times

Meals will be served at your child’s bedside for:

  • breakfast, at 8:30am
  • dinner, at 12:30pm
  • tea time, at 4:15pm
  • supper, at 8:30pm

Prescription diets, halal and vegetarian meals are available on request.

The ward has a number of different rooms, single rooms, double rooms and a 3 bedded ward. Our single rooms are allocated on patient priority, based on patient medical conditions. If a patient is very unwell or requires isolation or post-major surgery these rooms are allocated accordingly.

Your child will have an allocated nurse both day and night. This staff member will care for you and your child. Your nurse will inform you of the plan for your child. If you have any questions/queries please ask your nurse.
