Recently, Children's Health Ireland (CHI) at Temple Street hosted a special event for young patients on low protein diets. The event was organized by Anne-Marie Casey (Metabolic Dietitian), Norah Jordon (Clinical Psychologist), Jill Moore (Play Therapist), and Michelle O'Hara (Clinical Nurse Specialist).

Patients that attend the metabolic unit aged between 11 - 14 and their families were treated to a fun-filled day of activities, including a ghost tour of Dublin and a pizza party at Independent Pizza, a locally owned restaurant beside Drumcondra train station. The restaurant kindly prepared low protein pizzas using Fate flour mix and vegan cheese for those on low exchanges, and cooked gluten free base pizzas for those on slightly more. The event was funded by the Metabolic Unit fund raised from fundraising events over the years.

We sent out a survey to see what parents thought of the day and what we could do differently in the future.

“"I can't begin to tell you how wonderful it was to go into the pizza spot & have his exchanges & pizza already sorted...this was the best part of the day for me! I definitely thought it was so nice for them to have us all served together, no calculations or scales...just great! Thanks again to all of you! Super day,"
