Hospital Visits for Neurodivergent Children

Children's Health Ireland supporting children, young people and their family who have sensory needs.

Supporting Children with Sensory Needs

A hospital visit can be challenging for children with sensory sensitivities, including those with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The busy environment, bright lights, and unfamiliar sounds may cause stress and anxiety. At Children’s Health Ireland (CHI), we provide dedicated multi-sensory spaces designed to create a calming experience for children and their families.

Sensory Rooms

Our multi-sensory rooms are specially designed spaces featuring fibre optics, soft lighting, wall projections, tactile objects, and twinkle lights. These elements help create a relaxing and engaging environment, offering children and young people a sense of comfort and escapism.

Sensory rooms and spaces are available across all CHI sites. If your child would benefit from using one, please ask a member of staff for access.
